Frequently Asked Questions Click on a question and the answer will appear. How do I register my child for camp? You can either print out and mail the registration form on this website, or call your participating church for a form, or you can register on-line. Reservations cannot be guaranteed until the registration deposit is received. Is there a minimum age for attending camp? Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Of course you are welcome! We do caution you ahead of time that this is a Christian camp, and Bible-based Christian principles are taught here. Many campers attend that have no Christian education or experience so you should not feel out of place at all, but you are expected to follow the same rules as the other campers. For the good of all campers those who will not follow the rules, whether they are Christians or not, will be asked to leave. Can my child's friend be in the same cabin? We want campers to be with their friends or relatives. Generally, campers from a participating church can all get into one of the respective boys or girls cabins. To arrange for your camper to be with his/her friend, make a note regarding the cabin partner on the registration form. Upon registration, a confirmation packet should be sent to you with this information. If you do not receive a confirmation packet, please call your participating church to ensure that your registration was received. Below is a copy of the "What to Bring Checklist":
To protect the camp atmosphere, we ask that radios, walkmans and CD players, cell phones, TV's pocket video games, comic books, magazines, knives, matches, fire crackers and similar items be left at home. The possession or use of tobacco, alcoholic beverages and hallucinogenic drugs are not permitted and may/will result in a camper being expelled from camp. We recommend bringing items that are not brand new or that an individual fears losing. The camp can not take responsibility for items damaged or lost during a week of camp. In keeping with Southwest Baptist Camp's standards of dress and deportment, we ask that parents help pack with modesty in mind. Please exclude abbreviated or tight clothing, tube tops and tank tops. Please do not send irreplaceable clothing or valuables. T-shirts with questionable images or wording are not appropriate. The Snack Shop is open daily and in the evenings. Items can range from candy bars to drinks and ice cream. The Gift Shop is open daily. Campers enjoy buying camp souvenirs for themselves and family member back home. ***An optional offering is made available for campers at Southwest Baptist Camp. The offering is donated to the sponsorship fund to help children attend camp. The offering is considered a teaching opportunity more so than a source of revenue. What if my child takes medication or has a special diet? The camp provides a full time nurse to administer medications. Summer youth camps must comply with very strict regulations regarding the treatment of injuries and administering of medicines. All medicines, prescription and over-the-counter (OTC), must be turned into the camp nurse at check-in, also a parent/guardian must complete and sing a permission/release form (printed with the camper registration and/or health certificate). For OTC medicines, parents/guardians who desire to have such a medicine administered by the camp, must also submit a note from a doctor, on their legal notepad, giving the camp permission to administer the OTC medicine. In addition, please note these additional facts or instructions:
Thank you for your assistance and understanding. If your child has a specific food that he/she is allergic too and will affect only one or two meals, we will do everything possible to assist you. However, we ask parents to provide necessary food for children who have restrictive or specialized diets. We will give the food to the camp nurse with your written instructions. What if my child gets hurt or needs to see a doctor? Southwest Baptist Camp has a nurse on-site. An occasional bump or bruise may happen. We do not call home for minor injuries, but if our nurse deems necessary, parents will be informed. We prefer to err on the side of caution. If your child needs to see a doctor or go to the hospital, we will call you in advance if at all possible. If an emergency arises, you can be assured that we will contact you as soon as possible. Neither Bonita Park Conference Center nor Southwest Baptist Camp furnishes insurance at this time, parents of campers are instructed to attach a photocopy of their insurance card to the medical form and make certain the camp indemnity form is signed. Does my child have to participate in every activity? If your camper cannot participate in any activities because of physical limitations, that is fine; however, we encourage campers to participate in every activity. Many times campers do not want to participate in an activity because they fear embarrassment, but once they participate, they have a great time! We do not force campers to do every activity, but encourage them to challenge themselves and achieve what they thought they could not. How can I contact my child during the week or send mail? Campers have access to pay telephones on the camp ground. If an
emergency arises and you must contact your child you may direct your calls
through the camp's main office at You can send mail using the following address: Director, Southwest Baptist Camp c/o Bonita Park Camp & Conference Center Re: "Camper's name" HC 71 Box 1159 Capitan, NM 88316-9710 Campers do not have access to a telephone. If an emergency arises, please direct your calls through the camp's main office at (505) 336-4404. What if my child lost something during camp? Unfortunately, this happens a lot and the camp's lost and found can accumulate in variety and volume. In many instances we have been able to locate the lost items. When the item is identified, we will gladly make it available for retrieval. However, there have been many instances where the lost item remains lost. In this situation, unless it was due to the negligence of the camp, we cannot be held responsible for lost items but will keep our eyes out for it and contact you in case it does happen to be discovered. Labeling items before leaving home can help in matching them up with the camper. How can I donate my resources to Southwest Baptist Camp? We appreciate your desire to help. One of the ways Southwest Baptist Camp can keep its prices low is through contributions from individuals. Please visit with your participating church for additional information. What if I have a question that is not answered on this website? Please contact your participating church or email us. |
